Dog Health Tips 101

The below dog health tips are our collective knowledge as dog owner and some are from reliable sources:

      1.     As good personal hygiene is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves from illness, this is also true for our dogs. Basically, it includes regular bathing, cleaning their ears, properly cut their nails, and you should provide a clean place for them to stay.
      2.       Be observant of your dog’s daily routine and attitude as this is where you could easily know that there is something wrong with them if these change overnight.
      3.       You should have the following basic and essential items in your house once you own a dog:
a.       Dog Bed
b.       Crates/Containment
c.        Dog tag/Collar (Identification)
d.       Leash
e.        A clean food and water bowls
f.         Grooming supplies
·         Blow dryer
·         Bristle brush
·         Comb
·         Conditioning spray
·         Cotton balls
·         Ear cleaning solution
·         Grooming table or grooming area
·         Nail clippers
·         Scissors
·         Shampoo and conditioner
·         Slicker brush
·         Styptic powder – also known as quick stop
·         Toothbrush and dog toothpaste
·         Towels
g.        Toys
h.       Dog medicines and treats
·         Vitamins
·         Betadine
·         Dextrose powder
i.         Others:
·         Digital Thermometer
·         Rubbing alcohol
·         Weighing Scale
       4.       Choose the right and healthy food for your dog.
       5.       Regular update of deworming (every 3 months) and vaccines (yearly).
       6.       Sanitize first before you touch your dog.
       7.       Do not feed your dog with the harmful foods such as:
a.       Xylitol – found in a sugar-free stuffs
b.       Grapes and Raisins
c.        Chocolate
d.       Onions and Garlic
e.        Avocado
f.         Ethanol
g.        Bread dough
h.       Hops
i.         Macadamia Nuts
j.         Moldy foods

       8.       Do not let your dog smell cigarette smoke and hard scented perfume.
       9.       Clean your surroundings, floors, walls and dog crates/container with Sevin to prevent your dog from tick and flea.
